Careers
At Aylestone School we encourage students to grasp every opportunity available to them, both inside and outside of school. This will inevitably develop their knowledge and skills, and will enhance their experience, which in turn will help them move on to the next stage in their careers/education:
At Aylestone, we provide an extensive list of support structures which will help guide our students in making those next step choices. Some of these opportunities are listed below;
- Humanities Careers lessons in Key Stage 3 and 4 : a series of personal development lessons that aim to prepare students for the workplace and future study by exploring how personal skills and qualities relate to job roles and the modern workplace.
- Labour Market Information for The Marches: During identified KS3 Computer Science lessons, students have the opportunity to research the local industry and job roles in the Marches area and consider study/training options after school. This is a free to access website for parents/carers to support their child in their career planning.
- Careers talks delivered by outside speakers during assemblies. All years have this opportunity.
- Options Evening for our Year 9 students.
- Year 10 Information Evening and Careers Evening held in the autumn term each year at Aylestone.
- Various Year groups have the opportunity to attend trips to local employers, colleges, universities and training providers.
- KS4 students have the opportunity to attend open evenings/mornings held by the Colleges/Sixth Form and other training providers.
- Year 10 – 11 will attend Careers meetings with our dedicated Careers Adviser, Mrs Stallwood.
- Taking part in extra-curricular activities in and out of school provides the opportunity for students to get a taste of future employment/educational options.
Careers Evening
In the Autumn term we hold our annual Careers Evening for all Years 7-11. This evening is open to all students at the school and provides an opportunity for parents/carers to attend with their child to explore study, training and career options beyond school.
Year 7: Guess My Job
Students work in small groups to ‘interview’ business professionals to try and guess what their job role is. This is a fun, interactive session that builds confidence, team work and knowledge of a range of job roles.
Year 8: What is University?
Delivered by colleagues at the University of Worcester this fun and informative workshop aims to build aspiration and a foundation understanding around future study options.
Year 9: Careers in Construction
This workshop is delivered by a local construction contractor and aims to inform students about the Construction industry, the wide range of job roles available and study/training pathways involved.
Year 10: Three Colleges Day
Students sign up to attend taster workshops at the local colleges to experience college life and learning so they are better informed to plan their post 16 choices in Year 11.
Year 11 Mock Interviews
To prepare for their next step, all Year 11 students prepare a CV and participate in a mock interview with a business professional. This takes place after October half term.
