Choosing your subjects for Key Stage 4
Before you move from Year 9 to Year 10 you will need to make some important decisions about the subject options you will take next year. At Lord Williams’s School there is a good variety of subjects and different ways to study so that you can decide on a programme that suits you best.
The Core subjects you will study:
- English (Language and Literature)
- Mathematics
- The Sciences (covering all areas of science)
- Physical Education
- Religious Studies
- Personal, Social and Health Education
In addition, you can choose to study a:
- Humanities subject
- Language
- Technological subject
- Creative subject
This will give you a broad and balanced timetable with some choices within it. The majority of students will follow this route. There are other option routes or pathways, which allow you to choose different subject combinations to complement the core. These will be explained in assemblies and L4L times and at the Options evening.
You will find it helpful to talk to:
- Your parents/carers, and other trusted adults
- Your tutor and subject teachers at Lower School
- Mrs Stallwood (Careers Adviser)
Also:
- Select subjects which you enjoy studying.
- Select subjects at which you are successful.
- Attend the Options Evening (Spring term) and the Careers Evening (Autumn term)
- Visit Careers - BBC Bitesize and Explore careers | National Careers Service to to research where subjects might lead.
