Drama
Drama in year seven is structured to allow children to enjoy and achieve all they can. Pupils will be given the opportunity to work on improvised drama and to explore scripts. Lessons will help to develop pupils’ skills in collaborative working and negotiation as well as providing a forum for unlimited creativity and imagination.
Drama is taught for one hour each week and all children will participate in warm ups and games designed to enhance enjoyment, teach and polish performance skills and encourage imaginative responses to a variety of stimuli.
Stimulus materials will include poetry, music, images and artefacts. There will also be many opportunities for children to work in small groups on the creation of theatre, discussing and rehearsing.
Pupils’ work will be assessed after their performances. Other members of the class will be encouraged to evaluate and comment positively on the work of their friends. Children will be told at which National Curriculum level they are working and will be given guidance and support to help them progress to the next level.
Drama encourages our young people to work as part of a team, develop their confidence, experiment with ideas in a safe environment and learn how to be effective actors. The skills acquired through Drama can be applied to every other aspect of life, within and outside school.
